APTP2 Advanced Gynaecology: basic pelvic laparotomy, hysteroscopy

APTP3 Ultrasound: first-trimester scanning, late pregnancy scanning

APTP4 Postnatal and Neonatal Care: examination of a neonate, management of a sick neonate, grief counselling

Highly desirable: 12 months + in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and completed RANZCOG (basic) / Associate Training Program (Procedural)

Role/experience to be gained: The RANZCOG Advanced is designed for medical practitioners who can safely undertake complex deliveries, advanced gynaecological procedures and perform basic early and late pregnancy ultrasound scanning.

Position description: 2025 VRGP Obstetrics Gynaecology Advanced Trainee

Role/experience to be gained: The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar provides clinical support to the service across all elements of patient care and to enable the individual to progress their training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The O&G department sees approximately 1300 deliveries each year, and has multiple gynaecology theatre sessions each week.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical management of O&G patients at both outpatient and inpatient levels and the supervision of and adequate documentation of their clinical care. This will be under the supervision of Consultant staff.
  • Attendance at ante-natal and gynaecology outpatients and labour ward as rostered.
  • Effective liaison with midwifery and other nursing staff to ensure a high standard of clinical care.
  • Provide assistance at theatre as required for Gynaecology and Obstetric patients; and undertake surgical procedures under supervision.

Role/experience to be gained:

The RANZCOG Associate Training Program (Advanced Procedural) (APTP) is intended for medical professionals who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in hospital-based obstetrics and gynaecology. It builds on the skills developed through the Certificate of Women’s Health and/or Associate Training Program (Procedural).

Following successful completion of the APTP, you will be qualified to undertake complex deliveries and advanced gynaecological procedures, and to perform basic early and late pregnancy ultrasound scanning.
