The M2M Hume Region Rural Generalist Intern Training Program will provide interns with a variety of benefits that most interns will not experience:
Being an M2M intern has afforded me remarkable opportunities to develop my clinical skills, grow as a doctor and enjoy PGY1 in one of the most picturesque locations in Victoria. M2M provides extensive clinical education, well beyond what my peers at other hospitals received in intern teaching sessions, as well as support for undertaking further courses and postgraduate medical education.
On my GP rotation at Yarrawonga my GP supervisor was a keen and supportive teacher. I had the opportunity to develop management plans for patients, and to see several through from commencement until completion. A typical day included paediatric, antenatal, geriatric, general medical and surgical, and mental health presentations. Weekly there were sessions in anaesthetics or assisting in theatre (including general and orthopaedic surgery), and every day at lunch I was able to either study, go for a kayak on the lake, or take a break in one of the many fantastic eateries.

It’s not possible for me to overstate how well an M2M internship can set you up for the rest of your career. Thanks to the broad paediatric experience I had as an M2M intern, I was able to secure a Paediatric SRMO (BPT) position for my PGY2 job. M2M does provide an excellent pathway into AGPT, but is also a fantastic passage into vocational training outside of primary care (as I have done).
What a true privilege it was to have undertaken an internship with the Murray to Mountains program. Having had the opportunity to work in different areas of medicine, from surgery & general medicine, to emergency and general practice, enabled me to not only discover my passion for general practice, but also provided me with an excellent foundation of clinical knowledge and procedural skills. I will be forever grateful for the training I received and experience I gained through the Murray to Mountains intern program, and I cannot imagine having a better way to have commenced my medical career.
